Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode for Newborn

Hi,

My Husband is British Citizen and I am on Dependant visa.I am currently in india and delivered my first child.
as per the forums, i understood that i have 2 options for my child to travel back UK.
1) Apply British Passport ( which takes 6 months time)
2) Apply indian passport and get CoE-RoA ( this is quicker and takes 2-4 weeks only).

I wanted to go with second option as this is quicker. Now, can somebody guide me how can I apply for CoE-RoA for my child once he will get the indian passport.
- I need the link or form which i need to fill.

i understand that it will be dealt by VFS office only.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Correct links yes but not the category you state, as that would be a visa in the same category you hold.

I cannot see the online options but you should probably select 'Other' then 'Other' again and then CoE.

back to my question :-

I could not find any option as ‘other' in selecting Visa category or where i can select the category of CoE a- RoA. Will this option come after the VISa registration on website - https://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/account/register

I tried my level best and read many threads and UKBA Guidelines but could not find which form i should fill to apply RoA.

You might need to dig more to provide me further information.

You need to register for the online website and then you will have three drop down menus for each of 3 questions.

Hi,

As i mentioned earlier, I am applying for CoE RoA and currently in process of getting Indian passport for my child.
My query is-
I have got the birth certificate for the child that does not have child’s name. is it mandatory to have child’s name on the birth certificate?
although the certificate includes - mother’s name, father’s name, address and birth certificate registration ID.

Also, Can someone suggest me how much time is it taking to get the response for ROA application? I just read on UKBA website that it might take 6 months as well (https://www.gov.uk/right-of-abode/apply ... ntitlement ).
I have the appointment for Indian passport on coming wednesday and getting confused if i am doing the right thing to apply CoE - RoA for my child OR shall i go for the British passport directly. Please suggest.

If the child's name is not on the child's birth certificate, then how would anyone know that the birth certificate belongs to this specific child?

Thanks for reply, Municipal corporation issues birth certificates without name with a registration id which is unique on basis of father’s name, mother’s name, place of birth and address.

Indian passport office accept birth certificate without name.

however, I have no idea if that would be considered valid for Visa application. please suggest if you have any idea.

Also, it would be great if you can suggest the timelines for RoA application and British passport. which one will be quicker?

OP: Your circumstances are too specific for general answers to be available. My recommendation is to get a BC re-issued in the proper name after the naming ceremony. Your local registrar must probably have a protocol to edit and apply the actual name, with an affidavit from both parents in hand. After all you have used some form of affidavit to apply for a passport in the chosen name. Take the affidavit and passport to the registrar and figure it out. It's unlikely that you can work with just a BC with no name on it. In the best interest of the child, you should get a proper BC with his/her name on it, otherwise they are in for a lifetime of hassles. Fix it now.

For the information of others, the reason why someone would have a birth certificate with no name is that it's fairly common Hindu custom to not name a child at birth, but after a period of time:

RoA applications from India take 1.5-2 months from recent anecdotal evidence. First time British passports from India take much longer.

I received indian passport of my child now and applying for ROA from VFS website. Below are few queries from the VISA form:-

what should we fill in these questions:-

Section :- PASSPORT & TRAVEL INFORMATION

Q : Do you currently hold, or have held any other nationality ?
A : ?

Q : Are you a national of the country in which you are applying?
A: ?

Section : EMPLOYMENT & INCOME

All the income and expenditure questions seems to be invalid, What should we fill in them?

Section: FRIENDS & FAMILY

Q : Please enter details of what you plan to do whilst in the UK ?

Section: UNDER 18
Q : Who are you staying with in the UK?( No option of Father is coming in Relationship)

Just view things from the viewpoint of British authorities and thus:
1. Your child has British and Indian nationality
2. Yes

RoA doesn't require you to justify reasons for your travel to UK, as far as I know. Enter whatever seems reasonable or possible.

Super Priority visa
Standard

Please suggest what should I select; is there a difference when it comes to the ROA application from India. I can apply from Delhi Or Gurgaon

You'd be best served by calling them yourself and asking them what each level of service offers you , and then deciding for yourself.

Hi All,

First of all, Thank you so much for the support. this forum helped me to get the right visa for my daughter.

I got the ROA-COE on Indian passport of my daughter.
Below are the timelines

- Indian passport application form submitted - 21/07/2018
- Passport appointment on - 10/08/2018
- Passport arrived - 15/08/2018

-Visa form applied on 25/08/2018
-Visa Appointment on 29/08/2018
-Visa Arrived on 10/09/2018
There is priority service for Roa-Coe visa for which the SLA is 5 working days.We opt for this service.VFS center officer told me that all settlement visa take 3 weeks time in general and priority visa takes 1 week time for which you have o pay additional amount.

1. What documents did you submit ?
2. Cost of priority service (website shows two : one at ~21k INR and another at ~57k INR)
3. Did you work out the birth certificate name issue before applying ?

I am going to apply the same for my Daughter. Please can you help me in providing list of documents that you submitted . I tried all websites and cant able to find correct list .

How long did it take? Apart from the docs you have mentioned above, are there any other documents that you have provided ?

I am looking to apply for my new born child who is in Pakistan and wondering if it is better to apply for this COE rather than a British Passport. Please suggest.
