Can I request to return my infant's passport from Tier 2 visa application without cancelling the visa application?

Hi,

I have posted my UK born kid's Tier 2 visa application on 19th June 2018. We had a family emergency now. We need to travel to India at least by August 1st. I am not sure whether I will get my visa and passport by then. Can you please advise whether I can withdraw my passport without cancelling my visa application? I contacted few immigration advisers, they mentioned that I need to cancel the visa application. I filled the passport return form (gov.uk) until the last step. But it was not mentioned that it will cancel the visa application. I am confused now. or is there any chance I can get my passport before 31st July 2018.

If they can return the passport without affecting the visa application, will they ask for passport again to process? or will it affect overall visa processing time.
