NRPF and UNIVERSAL CREDIT

I got 2.5 yrs with no nrpf.my girlfriend (british national) is applying for universal credit and we got told we must do joint application.would this affect my future home office application?
As we live together we got told its a MUST joint application must be made.
Anyone with any idea how t go about this plz.
