Dependent Child Visa

Post by wkei3 » Fri Jul 27, 2018 2:44 am

Hi all, hope someone here could help, i have some queries about the child visa, as our case is a little different than most that i've read.

me and my husband are both British Citizen by decent, we have studied and worked in the UK for more than 10 years before we came to Hong Kong to work about 9 years ago. Now we have two kids, aged 6 and 7, who were born in HK. We are planning to go back to the UK for good next year, and we have been reading about the child visa that we will need for the kids. For the financial requirement, everything i've read was related to spouse visa plus child, so does it mean that even I'm just applying for the children, I'll need to meet the same financial requirement as spouse plus child?

Also I've read somewhere that it's cheaper to apply when the kids are actually in the UK, rather than applying overseas, is that true? Since the kids have HK passport, so can stay in the UK for 6 months...

Thanks for your help in advance.

If at least one British citizen by descent parent has lived in the UK for atleast three years (with absences of less than 90 days per year), before the birth of the child and one of the parents of that parent is a British citizen otherwise than by descent, then both children are entitled (i.e. cannot be refused) to be registered as British citizens directly under Section 3(2).

Be aware that such registration will also make them British citizens by descent and they themselves will not be able to use that provision to pass on their British citizenship to their children born abroad.
