Travelling to Europe with less than 3 months expiry on BRP

Post by ScoobyLondon » Fri Aug 03, 2018 8:52 am

Looking ahead to next year, my wife's BRP expires 31st Aug 2019.

We were planning a 2-week summer break in central Europe (Italy, Switzerland. etc) around early July.

As the Schengen requirements are that we have at least 3 months expiry on the BRP, does this mean there is no way to travel after June 2019?

We will be applying for ILR in Aug 2019 but got me thinking - the minimum 3-month BRP expiry, is this usually the case for other countries as well?

thanks

If you already had a schengen visa, you could travel with less than 3 month validity.
You just can not apply for a visa with less than 3 months validity.

So get your visa in advance with long enough validity, then you can travel with BRP and visa.

I was under the impression the embassies would not issue a Schengen with an expiry less than 3 months to BRP expiry.

So if you apply for a Schengen 4 months to BRP expiry, they will only issue a max of 1 month visa.

I read that somewhere but struggling to find the link.

I hope I'm wrong but if anyone can confirm would be great.

thanks again

That doesn't make sense.

They require 3 months validity to apply. Because that means you are a resident.
People with less than 3 months validity are not "Residents" (technically).

They won't give it for 1 month. Especially because it is a EU Spouse visa.

It can be a 3 day visa or a 3 year visa. Embassies get to decide.
