Family Visa - bank statements showing cash

Post by rollinaway » Fri Aug 03, 2018 8:57 pm

Hi,

I'm getting my ducks in a row to move back to the UK and then apply for a spouse visa for my wife.

I've just put 62.5k GBP in a current account I've had for years, but it bears no interest. So, I'm in the process of opening a NS&I savings account which pays (nearly) 1%.

However in the 'Appendix FM Section 1.7' document, Category D: Cash savings - requirements it says

7.4.3 ALL these requirements must be met:

4 - Regular bank statements are provided

Now - the NS&I account only gives a statement and pays interest out once per year. Does that count as 'regular'? Can I put the money into the NS&I account for 6 months, then put it back into my current account which will have 6 months showing nearly nothing? Apparently I can request a statement from NS&I which will show all transactions..

Stupid thing is that NS&I IS the UK government... it isn't like I'm hiding anything, I'm just trying to earn a little interest while I wait...

Thanks!

Oh, one more question - what's the soonest I can move the cash into investments? Does it need to be held as cash all through the application process?

I'm returning to the UK to work, but how timings work I won't have worked 6 months in the UK before we do her application/we'd like to get everyone across before the new school year but let our daughter finish the one in Canada first. I'm currently the stay at home parent, so having cash savings seems the safest bet.

So if for whatever reason the application is rejected we'll have 6 months of job history. I hate having this much money sitting doing nothing.
