Very interesting stats, Mal111. I wonder if there are any stats on how many people applied for naturalisation every year during the last few years? Would be interesting to see how the same or an increasing number of applications every year with the decreasing number of approvals is leading towards a pile-up of the backlog. With this rate not long till there will be a backlog as it used to be prior to 2012/2013.

A little old now (20 June 2017), but yes there is:
https://www.kildarestreet.com/wrans/?id ... 31#g1834.r

Year 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 (to date)
Applications received 12,546 18,330 19,990 19,053 15,474 12,712 13,011 ? ?
Applications granted 5,018 12,832 23,329 29,290 18,405 11,483 10,393 ? ?
Applications refused 1,238 613 407 723 879 492 484 ? ?
Attended ceremonies 18,000 10,920 13,500 10,044 8,199 3,980

Applications peaked in 2012, decreased to 2015. The 2012/13 backlog and clearance is obvious. With the 26 November ceremony coming up, the total ceremony number for 2018 may be similar to 2017.
