EU permanent resident work in UK question

Post by kylem » Wed Apr 30, 2008 9:07 pm

Hello,

I apologize if this question has been asked before, but sometimes it takes to long searching through old posts. I have two questions. First of all let me explain my situation. I am an American married to a Polish girl and have been living in Poland for 3 years.. I just got my permanent residency in Poland. I want to go work in the UK and I thought it would be no problem.. but It looks like I still need a work permit. If my wife was there it would be different, but I need to go first and get a job before my wife can come over. So, does anyone know if being married to an EU national and having permanent residenece in Poland is enough for me to just go to the UK and work.. My second question is: Can an American apply for the ancestry visa?. I have alot of family in the UK and my grandmother was from Scotland.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as the matter is somewhat urgent.

Thanks!
Kyle

I think you need EU citizenship before you can come to work in the UK by yourself. Ancestry visas are for citizens of a member country of the commonwealth.
