ICT dependent to Tier-2 General visa for full-time employee in UK

Dear sir

I am working in a company on full time role with a Tier-2 ICT partner Visa. Now my wife's Visa is at risk after six months or so. I'm checking with my current employer if they can sponsor me tier-2 general visa. As I got employed in UK, is this process simpler than applying for Visa from my or
Home country? What options my employer have in this case? Is it like my employer will still apply from my home country where I will be asked to go back and finish application formalities? What could be the fees?
