I am in kind of a unique situation which I would like some advice on. I am eligible for citizenship with an EU country through my father and am in the process of applying. I was told it would take 3-6 months to process, but I am now realizing that it will likely be much longer. The application was originally lost and it seems like no one at the migration department really knows what is going on.
Anyways, I (probably prematurely) started applying for jobs and received a job offer in the UK. They are aware of the citizenship issue and seemed willing to wait for it to come through, but now that it is going to take longer than expected I am worried that may change and also about the effects of Brexit. Is there any way for me to get a temporary visa or something so that I can accept the job now? Here are the details/nuances of the situation:
- The position I have been offered is in a shortage area, but the company that has hired me is not a sponsor, so I don’t think I can get a Tier 2 General visa. I don’t know how much work it is to become a sponsor.
- I am legally married to an EU citizen but he would not be moving with me. We are in the process of separating, but will probably be legally married for another 1-2 years. I know EEA spouses can accompany their spouse, but since he isn’t moving to the UK, I don’t think there is anything here to work with.
- From what I have read, you can be exempt from visa requirements if you are visiting the UK for work for less than 6 months for certain work activities (like training), but you have to be employed by a company outside the UK. Correct me if I am wrong.
Let me know if there are any routes I haven’t considered!
