Dependants Over 18

Post by WalkerByName » Mon Aug 20, 2018 9:57 am

My daughter was under 18 when she was first granted her Dependant Visa, but will be 20 when we renew in December. She still lives with my husband and I, and is still very much a Dependant in every way. I know that she can still apply on my application as my Dependant, in accordance with the Guidance Notes. However, where it's NOT clear, is where to put her information on the application. I have called a number for Visa Application assistance, but they directed me to call an Immigration Lawyer. Can someone please help me clear this up?

Would it be under part 2C: Your Relationship With Your Child? This is the only part that seems to make any sense to my husband and myself when we have looked over the application. (I am loathe to hire an Immigration Lawyer only for clarification of this one thing.) I am comfortable with the rest of the application; it is only this one thing that has thrown us off. Any advice, or previous experience with this is greatly appreciated. :D

Dependent Over 18

Post by WalkerByName » Thu Aug 23, 2018 12:23 pm

I'm told my daughter, who's over 18, will need to fill out her own application (we're applying on SET(M) ) when we apply for Settlement in December, in addition to being allowed to apply on my own application since she still lives with my husband and myself. But no one can tell us which section of the application she will need to fill in, as the entire application doesn't necessarily apply to her. Anyone know which part of her application she should fill out?

Unfortunately, there's conflicting guidance.

Agreed. My husband sought some guidance as well. He was told she wouldn't need to apply on her own application. While I was told she would. No one seems to have a straight-forward answer, and every answer we get is different than the last.

We are both thinking that perhaps we would be better off seeking out the advice of an Immigration Advisor after all, despite the fact we had hoped to avoid doing so. We would rather get it right than risk doing it wrong and having our application rejected, plus we would be out the hefty application fee (ouch!). If that means going through an advisor who can show us how to do it correctly then so be it.

Thanks for just clarifying that we aren't crazy, we're just not going to get a straight answer, all are conflicting answers.
