Overcharged visa fee (i think) - how to get a refund?

Hi All,

My visa is for 5 years, and is due to expire late in 2019. We've recent had twins, and I have just applied for a Tier 2 dependent visa for them. On the application, I indicated that my CoS was for more than 3 years. When I went to pay for the application, I was asked to pay £1,408 (the 3+ year fee) instead of 704 (the up to 3 year fee). My children's visa will only last for one year, but there was no option to pay a lower fee. I phoned the UKVI call centre, and was told that I filled out the form correctly and they would refund the difference once my visa was issued.

Has anybody received a refund for this? If so, how do we go about this? I have received bad advice from the call centre in the past, so I am a bit worried.

I know this post is old, but how did your situation turn out? I’m in a similar predicament.

I have heard that people chose the 3 year option knowing that it is not accurate while stating the length of their own CoS . This then gets the system to charge the under 3 year fee. I am yet to hear anyone being asked to pay more or refused child dependent visa. FYI I will be doing the same soon.

Thanks - Yes paid the fee for less than 3 years as the main applicant's leave is only till Oct 2020 but it was originally given for 5 years.

About £700. I was nervous while applying but I have read somewhere that your application is unlikely to be refused if the caseworker thinks that you have underpaid. You will simply be asked to pay the remainder. With that in mind, I took a calculated risk.

Hello. I have to renew my wifes tier 2 dependent visa. On the application there is question "main applicants ( i.e. me) CoS duration greater than or less than 3 years". Now my CoS is valid till October 2022 (less than 3 years from now) but it was issued in 2018 (4 years total duration). On the basis of this answer visa fees is decided (less than 3 years fees 500£ and greater than 3 years fees 1000£). What should I put in CoS duration (less than 3 or greater than 3). The extension will be for 3 years

Hi nishitsud;

You can apply for less than 3 years for your wife extension. This is what i did 1 month ago and my wife's visa is granted for 3 more years.
