Dependent visa query.

Post by paulmathews2222 » Mon Aug 27, 2018 7:31 am

Hello, I am applying for a dependent visa for Ireland as my spouse is already there working on a critical skill visa. I was on a valid work visa living in Northern Ireland (UK). I wanted to visit a branch of my home church in Dublin and was misinformed that since I hold a valid UK visa it is not required for me to apply for an Irish visa, so I went ahead without applying for one. It was my fault as I didn't crosscheck this information. It was a Sunday morning and I was just carrying my bible and a wallet and boarded the bus to Dublin from Belfast where I was living. The border police stopped the bus and checked everyones travel documents, unfortunately I wasn't carrying mine. The police were very kind and courteous and understood I wasn't lying. However, they politely denied me entry and gave me a letter post taking my finger prints. Will this affect my chances of getting a vis to Ireland.

I'm assuming your nationality is Indian so correct me if I'm wrong.

Which visa you had/have in the UK? Indian nationals with certain type of UK visas can travel to Ireland without a visa, was this incident before the Irish-UK visa waiver programme? See more details below:

http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Ir ... +Programme

It will affect any future visas because they will see it as an illegal entry, it will need to be disclosed when applying for any visas to Ireland.

Unfortunately there is no way to get around this even if it was an honest mistake, disclose it and explain the situation in a letter to INIS. It will help as well if you provide any letter/docs that you were issued.

Thank you very much for your response.

I was on a post study work visa. Unfortunately this category type requires a visa to enter Ireland, which I didn't know. I certainly will mention this on the visa application. What chances or under what circumstances they might reject if they do? Since I do not have the letter, will they overlook it if I mention the factual reason?

Illegal entry, refused entry, etc. It depends on the person dealing with the application and how they view your circumstances so hard to tell what chances you have of an approval/denial.

UK and Ireland do share immigration information so even if you don't disclose this information they will be able to corroborate it with their counterparts in the UK.

Did they issue you a letter or not?

However, they politely denied me entry and gave me a letter post taking my finger prints.

They did provide with a letter but I've misplaced it. I definitely will disclose this information in detail on the application.
