British by descent?

Hi all, I've been poking around the forum for a while now but haven't come across my specific situation... Hoping someone with more knowledge might help me out!

I am a Canadian passport holder born after 1983. My mother was born in Sunderland, but emigrated to Canada when she was 7 years old. Both of her parents were born in England, although they also emigrated to Canada in their mid-60s. My grandfather served in the RAF, if that's relevant.

The Home Office publication on automatic acquisition of citizenship states the following:

Under section 2(1)(a) of the British Nationality Act 1981, a person born outside of the
UK on or after 1 January 1983 is a British citizen at birth, if at the time of birth, either
parent is a British citizen ‘otherwise than by descent’.

At the time of my birth, my mother was a Canadian citizen/passport holder. So, my question is this: does one somehow lose their British citizenship 'otherwise by descent'? Am I eligible for citizenship by descent through my mother who was born in the UK, but held a Canadian passport at my birth?

If she didn’t renounce her British citizenship prior to your birth, then you are automatically British.
