Is it possible to apply for visa without passport?

Is there ANY chance I can apply for my Tier 2 Work Visa extension through the standard (not priority) service WITHOUT having to submit the passport?

I am going to be travelling outside UK in 2 weeks' time which means I cant apply for my visa until after I come back. I dont want to lose out on these 2 weeks either when my visa could potentially be getting processed. Any suggestions would be helpful!
