Visitor Visa use time limits?

Post by Davec » Mon Sep 03, 2018 11:35 pm

Are there time limits on the use of the General Visitor Visa? The advice says the person can stay here for a maximum of 6 months. However, can they take this 6 months staying here over a period of a year, or 2 years or 3 years by dividing it up? So for example can the person with the visa come to the UK for one month, then go back, then come here for another month, etc. so that in the course of let's say 2 years his stays in the UK add up to this 6 months maximum stay(s) allowed?

Hi there.

So to be clear. The advice for the Standard Visitor Visa says simply "You can usually stay in the UK for up to 6 months" but no time limit is stated.

In this 6 months that are allowed, this is 26 weeks. The person with this visa can therefore (for example) come to visit me 13 times, each visit being of 2 weeks' duration. The person can therefore spread these 13 visits out over maybe 4 years, or whatever. As an example.

Is this correct?

But later in the Visitor Visa advice it refers to 3 months, not to 6 months. Under the heading of "Extend you Visa" it says on the government website, " For example if you apply for a 3 month visa, you can apply to extend it for 3 more months."

So I am confused. Is the normal visitor visa for 3 months or for 6 months? Or is it a case where, on the application form, you tick a box saying either 3 months or 6 months? Presumably costing different prices for the visa.

A normal cheapest visitor visa is multiple entry, valid for six months. If they grant less, then it's not normal.
