Indian child born in UK now has British citizenship

Post by UserMom » Wed Sep 05, 2018 6:49 pm

My 1 year old now has registered as a British citizen since parents got their ILR, and has received her certificate of citizenship and passport. The child was registered at the Indian high commission after birth and got her Indian passport at that time. The child has never left the UK, never used her Indian passport and has made no trips to India.

Would there be need to surrender the Indian passport? Would the process and fees be the same as for adults with Indian citizenship who naturalise?

She has not naturalized but been registered as British by birth.

You need to surrender any valid passports upon loss of Indian citizenship. There's a short timeframe from registration within which you can surrender without any penalty. You should ask the high commission directly about fees. This is the British citizenship forum and your question is better suited to the Indian one, where others might know more.
