Short Term Student Visa

Post by Qpcubixn1092 » Thu Sep 06, 2018 3:18 am

Hello! So this isn’t for a Tier 4 visa but somewhat related as it’s for a short term student visa. As a non visa national (I’m from the US) I don’t have to apply for a short term visa ahead of time. I can just get clearance at the uk entry. However I need to bring acceptance letter from the Uk university I’m studying at as well as a financial document showing I have the funds to support myself. Does anyone know how long the money has to be sitting in my bank account for? I know for tier 4 it’s 28 days. But I can’t seem to find the exact details for finances for a short term student. Any advice would be much appreciated thanks!

There is no specific rule about it. In paragraph A57D(b) of the immigration rules, the only money-related requirements are that a short-term student

(iv) does not intend to take employment, including paid or unpaid work, a work placement or work experience in the UK, other than that specified in A57D(a)(iii)
(v) does not intend to undertake self-employment or engage in business activities or any professional activity in the UK
(vi) has enough funds to meet the cost of their return or onward journey from the UK
(vii) will be maintained and accommodated adequately out of funds available to them
(viii) will not have recourse to public funds

The guidance for Border Force Officers also says that a short-term student should also "meet the cost of their onward or return journey" (page 6) which is presumably shown by a return ticket, but it does not instruct them to check for any specific amount of money held for any specific amount of time.
