Naturalisation comprehensive sickness insurance

Post by fatadefum » Thu Sep 06, 2018 10:57 am

Hi. I am in the process of applying for naturalisation as an eea national. I already got my PR over a year ago. During the last 5 years i’ve been working and also i’ve been studying. My problem is that even if i already got the permanent residency, they might ask me for comprehensive sickness insurance, although at the moment i got my PR it wasn’t necessary. I have a few months without being employed, just student. Would they refuse my application because of that? Also i’m still confused if i need to cover 6 or 5 years with paperwork.

The reason i am asking is because a friend of mine has ILR;not PR, although she is eea national, some years ago they gave irl for settled status. They asked her for comprehensive sickness insurance when applying for naturalisation for the period when she was a student(not long ago).

If your friend has ILR (as an EEA citizen was that granted in the 60's or 70's?) then the application was made (presumably) as someone NOT exercising their Treaty Rights but as someone holding ILR. If your friend had not lost ILR e.g. for an absence of more than 2yrs, then there is no need for them to have had CSI.

In some cases of EU/EEA citizens applying for BC it seems caseworkers believe all applicants should have had CIS if self sufficient and should hold also apply/hold a PRC, that is wrong where the applicant holds ILR. In your friends case it maybe just a case of an ill-informed caseworker.
