Tier 2 General Visa extension problems -unrestricted cos

Hello everyone, I will apologize early for a would be lenghty post. I came to the UK, last april 25, 2014 as a nurse from then i changed job in the same field but the current employer unfortunately gave me 2 years that sponsorship that will be expiring in January 1, 2019. Which is short 4 mnths for me to apply for ILR.I reminded them of this early on this year and they assured me that they will be able to renew and until recently I thought everything was peachy. Today, I got an email from HR that currently they cant get as cos because since july 5,2018 the home office changed nurses’ sponsorship type to unrestricted and this hospital just have sponsorship license for unrestricted one. HR also mentioned that, to get the unrestricted type of sponsorship, you need to apply before april and they already past the due date. She mentioned will try to extend my visa given that i already have it, and i am in the same job role. I am really worried. I mean is she right to say so can she actually just extend the current visa until i can apply for ILR in april? What are my options? Can i hold them responsible?

Sorry , I have it the other way around they only have the sponsorship for the restricted type not for the unrestricted one which is for nurses and doctors.
