British citizen claiming Universal Credit Benefit

Hi all,

I have some questions about claiming benefits whilst I am sponsoring my husband who is already here in the UK.

We have just applied for his NI number and he is already looking for jobs and I am soon to start a new job.

I am already claiming UC/ JSA and was advised by the Job center to register my husband on their system as they need this even though he isn’t eligible to claim and won’t be claiming, it’s just their process.

Will this effect his visa or not because he won’t be claiming..?

And will declaring him prevent me from getting the UC benifet?

Any advices ? Anyone who is in the same situation ?

Just to be sure, Do I have to declare my husband and ask him to register in the gov website and claim benefit in his name ?
What is the process exactly ?

Only the British Citizen person can claim benefits, so you can declare but the British Citizen person named is the claimant.
