Unpaid Tax Question for Spouse Visa Extension

Post by ukdweller » Wed Sep 19, 2018 5:07 pm

My wife will be applying for her spouse visa extension shortly. I am self-employed and I have a question with regard to clause 7.a of Appendix FM
7. In respect of self-employment in the UK as a partner, as a sole trader or in a
franchise, all of the following must be provided:
  • (a) Evidence of the amount of tax payable, paid and unpaid for the last full financial year.
The deadline for 2017/18 tax bill is 31 January 2019. My wife will be applying in October 2018. I wonder if it will have any impact on her application if my tax bill remains fully or partially unpaid by the time of her application?

Thank you!

As the deadline for the last tax year has not passed there’s nothing to show for that. Were you self employed in the tax year before (2016-2017?)
My comments do not constitute immigration advice, if in doubt consult an immigration adviser/solicitor

I wasn't self-employed in 2016-17. As self-assessment can be submitted before the deadline, I am going to submit mine in the next few weeks before she applies and to meet the financial requirement on the basis of self-employment in 2017-18. I will also have accounts signed by a certified accountant and all other paperwork outlined in Appendix FM.

What I am not sure about is if my tax bill for 2017-18 should be paid in full before she applies.
