Looking for advice about partner visa

Post by DDalezz » Wed Oct 03, 2018 9:04 pm

Hi,

I am just looking for advice about my situation with my girlfriend who wants to move to the UK to live with me. Here are the details:

- I am British and she is South Korean
- She is an advertising graduate
- We have been together for 2.5 years
- My partner lived and worked in the UK on a Tier 5 Visa (YMS) for 1 and a half years (from November 2015 - June 2017).
- We lived together in the UK for 1 year.
- I then moved to Korea for a year (Aug 2017 - Aug 2018).
- I now am in UK again and my partner is in Korea but wants to return to the UK.

I would greatly appreciate any advice about how my partner can live and work in the UK so we can be together. What visa do you think is best? Would marriage allow her to stay in the UK? Is it worth her coming on the 6 month tourist visa and then applying for a work permit?

Thank you in advance!

If you have documented proof of living in a relationship 'akin to marriage' for at least 2 years, you could apply for an Unmarried Partner visa. This would require evidence such as joint finances, both names on a tenancy agreement, shared bills etc.,

Marriage would enable your partner to settle in the UK, providing you are able to meet all the requirements, including the minimum income level of £18,600 p.a

It's not possible to switch to any other visa category while in the UK as a visitor.
