UK visa appeal criminal record

Hi, hoping someone can help.
I’m a british citizen and my husband is an American citizen. We are wanting him to come to the UK to live but he has a criminal record. We’ve met with a lawyer who has informed us that because of the crime and sentence it is an indefinite ban in the UK. He’s been here to visit many many times and as it stands I cannot go to the USA because I am recovering from stage 4 cancer. The lawyers stated we may have grounds for an appeal under article 8 once we apply and get refused but what are the chances of us losing the first and second appeal and then him being denied entry for good to the UK?
If all else fails and we lose the appeal we’re hoping I’m well enough to live in the USA in maybe 3 or 4 years but we’d still like to be able to travel back to the UK for holidays.

He’s in the US and he has a felony burglary conviction from 2007 which resulted in a sentence longer than 4 years (indefinite ban). He is rehabilitated and has had a really good job as an electrician for the last 4 years which requires him to be licenced and go into peoples houses everyday. Hoping this can all go for us when we appeal it because I can’t go to the US due to my health. We just don’t want to run the risk of appealing it twice and losing then him NEVER been able to come here not even for a visit
