BRP: Place of birth

Post by VirtualWaver » Tue Oct 16, 2018 2:36 pm

Hi All,

I received my BRP last week.

In all my previous BRPs the "Place of birth" was my birth city, in this one they written my country instead and it looks like the space has a limitation as only first 16 characters of my country are displayed, the last 3 are missing.

I emailed BRP team last week but didnt get any reply yet.

My wife's BRP is the same.

Do you know if this is ok or should I report this and get the BRP replaced? Thanks.

Yes, mine was the region and not the country... USSR doesn't even exist anymore!

I emailed them as well, with a copy of my passport, and they investigated it and said it is fine.

Wait for their reply.

Thanks a lot!

I think your BRP was made by time travellers! xD

No, I mean, they put "Perm Region" on the BRP, and omitted the country altogether!

My passport only says "USSR" as place of birth in English, so they somehow translated the Russian region name...

I had a same-day appointment and spotted this, the case worker said it's fine.

Since your country is correct, I assume that's fine too.

I emailed them last Friday and still no reply.

Shall I wait a bit more or report this online?

Is this Report a Mistake link?

If so, that was what I used. They replied asking for a photo of my passport, investigated, and told them it was correct.

As I said, I'm fairly sure it is fine. But at least you will have written confirmation from them.

I reckon the country was omitted from mine due to space limit on the card (i.e. no space for both region and country, Russian Federation).

But keep us posted on what they say!

Hi All,

Got a reply from them and, yes, it is ok as there is a space limit of 16 characters (including spaces) on BRP.

They also advised that the Place of Birth field on the BRP should reflect the place of birth in the applicant's passport or other documentation if not shown in a passport.

Might be useful for everyone!

Glad that is sorted! :)

Mine was a fun one... my passport says X Region (in Russian) followed by USSR (in English). So they just kept the X Region bit on the BRP. I guess it partially reflects what my passport says, and they told me it's fine, but I totally understand your concern.
