Definition of Family in Accommodation

Post by Magnvus » Tue Oct 23, 2018 9:48 pm

Hello everyone, here is a tricky one I need your help with. I might be the only one who is paranoid enough to ask this but given the lack of information online I'm guessing I'm not the only one.

I'm a British National, my missus is Turkish and we will be applying for her settlement visa soon.

As we were putting the accommodation documents together we realised we might be in fault for assuming we were OK, hence my question;

I have been living with my grandmother for the past 8 months in the UK and she kindly said yes for me and my wife to stay here as well, therefore we are planning to provide information and evidence to this address as our accommodation. She owns the property, no mortgages or loans on the house. It is pretty straight forward. We have the title deeds from Land Registry and will be acquiring a housing survey as well.

But here is the thing; we know we can apply from a family property, but, does my grandmother count as family in the eyes of HO ? Or is it just my mother, father or any other brothers or sisters I may have ?

Everything is set apart from the actual definition of what a family is in the eyes of the Immigration Laws.

If you could provide me with some information regarding this rather silly issue, I would be forever grateful.

Thank you.

Your grandmother is a family member. You're overthinking this. :idea:

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.
