Visitor visa from Australia

Firstly sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I can’t find anything. My wife cam over in May & will fly out on 28th December on her visitor visa, so effectively she will have overstayed by around 5 weeks. She intends applying for the spousal visa on return to Australia . Will the overstay affect this ? If we decide against applying for this visa how long will she have to stay away before she can return on another visitor visa ? I am a UK citizen working here
