In 2014 all French Identity cards were extended from 10 to 15 year validity. This means that as far as the French Authorities are concerned, a 10 year identity card that expired in 2017 is still valid for another 4 years, despite the fact the expiry date on the card itself has passed.
The French Interior Ministry have issued the following memo in French and English for holders of Identity cards which expired within the last 5 years to travel to the UK.

As I understand it some countries have accepted this, some have not. The UK has made no official stance on it either way.
What I'd like to know please, is regardless of the official position, what is the reality at the juxtaposed UK Border Control in Calais? Are people with expired ID cards being let through, or turned away?
