Tier 2 (General) Extension earliest date to apply

Hi,

I am currently on Tier 2 (General) 3 years visa, which is due to finish on 15/03/2019.

1) Please tell me can I apply now (05/01/2019) 2 and half months before the visa expiry date?

I called UKBA and one representative said that its fine to apply now and other representative said that they suggest applying not before 28 days of visa expiry, but she said even If you apply now they will not refuse the visa only the visa will come after your current visa expires.

Please answer as I am thinking to apply this week?
