5 years permit free

Post by pmdk » Tue Jul 15, 2008 11:43 am

Hi,

I have completed 5 years of permit free training as a NHS doctor (got it just before HSMP came into being). Entered and started work in UK on 14th July 2003. Have permssion to stay in UK till November 2011.

Can I apply for ILR based on 5 year continous stay on permit free training status as a doctor ?

Alternatively if I apply for Tier 1 visa, what period of time do they allow - 2 or 3 years in the first instance.

Thanks

pmdk

1. PFT doesn't count towards ILR (PFT grant is based on the condition that applicant intends to leave the country after training is complete).

2. I hope you are aware that Tier 1 visa holders are not allowed to work in training posts, so *do not even think of* switching to Tier 1 if you are currently working towards your CCT/CCST in a training post.

3. Initial leave under Tier 1 is for 3 years.

dear sush,

any idea if a doctor with PFT allowed to work as a locum or salaried GP on completion of training, whilst awaiting switch to Tier 1 being approved?

not certain what condition is attached to PFT as such. argument is if a training junior doctor is allowed to do locum posts why can't a GP trainee who's now fully qualifed allowed to do locums in GP practices whislt under the remaining PFT visa.

any views/advice?
