US Spouse working remotely for an EU company.

Post by kbrdthenerd » Sat Sep 07, 2019 4:26 pm

Hey all!

I am a US citizen and my spouse in from Ireland. Sometime in the future, we plan on moving to Ireland together where I can get a Stamp 4 to live and work there. Our ability to easily move depends on me being able to find a job where we plan on living in Ireland (not Dublin), but I am concerned about finding something, especially if I want a job I will really enjoy.

Because of this, I would like the option to work remotely for a company in another European country while residing in Ireland. I would also like the option to apply for jobs in the UK and work remotely from Ireland, but who even knows how that will work out at this point. Has anyone ever done this before, or knows if it is possible without having to get a work permit for another country?

Hello

I don't know what type of business you are in.

I live in the UK and work remotely. I work from home and I travel sometimes.

Now, even if the people I work with are based in Ireland, I am still employed by the UK branch of the company. They pay my salary through PAYE and my taxes are paid in the UK as I live in the UK.

If you are in the IT industry, in this day and age, it's possible to find remote positions but you are always employed by a company or a branch based in the country where you live.

You have to pay taxes in the country where you live regardless of where the HQ of the company is.

So if you live in Ireland and work from home there, you have to pay taxes in Ireland.

Hope it makes sense.
