visa extension for students.

Post by tyronegal » Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:53 pm

Hi everyone, I have an issue am hoping you will help me understand.

I came to the UK, last year as a dependant of my mum who was coming to study for her Masters, now my passport had the 'student dependant visa'. During that year I enrolled at uni and did one year, so this Oct am going for my second year. all our visas, expire at an exact date: 30 Sept 08. Now, as I fill in the forms so that I can attend the thingy in person am wondering, do I continue as her dependant in that case continue with the 'student dependant visa' status or change to 'student status'. Am confused coz from what I have read on the UK Visas sites, it says inorder for someone to move from a 'student dependant' status to s'tudent' status, they have to go back to their country and get it from there, something that I dont want to do. On the other hand, they are saying if a student's dependant is over 18, they have to make their own separate application. I came when I was 18, am 19 now, if I have to make my own separate application, can I still be a dependant of my mother even if am over 18 now???

thank you... :) this my first post here by the way... :)

If your mother applies for an extension as student, then you may still apply as her dependant, even if you are over 18 (80).
