Hi,
I am quite confused by the "2 types" of British Citizenship - by descent & otherwise than by descent (or something similar).
(Why are British Citizenship rules so complicated/confusing ???)
Anyway, I am a registered British Citizen. My father was a British Protected Person from Uganda & I claimed that status for me when I came to UK in 2001. I had given up my Indian Citizenship when I acquired BPP status & hence when the rules changed in 2003/2004 I became eligible for British Citizenship.
My wife was on spouse visa & eventually naturalised as a Britsh Citizen.
Both of us were Indian Citizens prior to this.
Now I am sure that one of us is a British Citizen by descent & the other one is a British Citizen otherwise than by descent (or whatever its called).
The reason I want to know this is that I think (I could be wrong) one of us might not be able to pass on the British Citizenship to our children if they are not born in the UK. We are planning to settle outside UK & want to know what will the issues be for our childrens citizenship if they are born outside UK.
Sorry for the long post.
Deepak Mehta.
