work permit dependent And switching to tier1

Hi,

I am currently in the UK as a work permit holder and is eligible to switch to the tier1 system based on the points based calculator.
My wife is also in the UK as my dependent.

I am planning to apply her tier 1 dependent status separately(not along with my application)
Will the dependent status of my wife continue to be valid as a work permit dependent if my tier 1 application is successful.

Will she be able to travel outside the UK without switching to the tier 1 dependent category.
