Schengen Short Stay Visa (Type C) - Maximum validity

Hi,

I heard that a Schengen visa can be issued for up to 5 years (I know you can only stay for 3 months each visit, but you can visit as many times as possible).

Has anyone actually got a visa for as long as that? I have applied for the Schengen visa various times, and the longest I got was for 1 year.
