I'm looking for advice about a complex situation my boyfriend and I are in. He is from the UK and studied abroad in America for a year (2018-19). While he was here during that year we started dating. During that time he also decided he wished to continue his education at the university he studied abroad at.
We have now been doing a year and a half of long distance. I live in Missouri, and the school he got accepted into grad school at is in Oklahoma.
Here is out problem, he's worried that at his visa appointment for the student visa, he will get rejected because he has an American girlfriend, even though the whole purpose of him coming here is for study. He's wondering if he needs to delete or hide photos of us together on social media. Does the embassy look closely at this? How much do they care if you have a significant other in the states, when your whole purpose for coming here is school.
Another question, during the embassy interview to they ask about the purpose of your past visits? He came here back in December to visit me. Will they ask about it and will it raise any red flags during the interview?
Want to stress again that even when he comes here for school, he will be living in a different state than the one I'm in.
Looking for someone who has been in this situation before. How did you navigate it?
Thanks for your help!
