Apply for my son's UK passport - not resident of UK

Post by garimasethi » Mon Aug 24, 2020 1:49 am

Hello!

I am a British passport holder (born in UK in 1979). After living for 4 years in UK as a minor, my parents moved outside UK/EU. They are not British passport holders. Now, I live in the US for last 20 years. I have visited UK a few times, but I have never lived there in the recent history. I have a child (10 years old) born in the US, and I want to apply for a British passport for him. Would he be eligible?

If so, what would be able to tell me what should be my next steps?
Thank you!

Yes, if your parents were not a foreign diplomat posted to the UK nor an enemy alien at the time of your birth, then I believe that your child is a dual US/UK citizen.
