easiest schengen country to get into for a US citizen?

Post by bunny80 » Thu Sep 04, 2008 6:16 pm

i am a romanian EU national and my US girlfriend wanted to come to the uk to be with me and get married later but she got sent back because she lied about the reason, she said she was just visiting for a month and the trip had nothing to do with a relationship/marriage. we decided to go this way because normal marriage/fiance visa's would have been tough to get in our case because of several reasons. anyway they called her parents who hate our relationship and found out the truth.

it seems they suspected her because she was ''too prepared'' and had a return ticket, hotels booked for a month and thousands of $ on her bank statement. it seems young american women travelling alone are frowned upon in the uk border check points. from what i've been told there was no guarantee the truth would have worked which is why we went this way in the first place(we knew about cases where people got sent back on suspicion of trying to stay in the uk even though it wasn't even the truth in many of those cases).

a few days ago we found out that denmark has very lax laws regarding marriage (basically anyone who is there , even on a tourist visa, can do it), so now we want to do the same thing but get a schengen visa instead so do you have any idea what country would be best to land in for the easiest possible entry in the schengen area? or maybe somehow obtain a travel schengen visa before leaving the US? i don't know if that' s possible though.

thank you very much for any help :)

If she's going to Denmark she needs a Schengen visa from her local Danish Consulate! Next please!

US citizens do not need a visa for any Schengen-country.

As a US-citizen you'd really have to mess something up big time to be denied entry for visiting purposes...

This can be verified, for example, on the website of the Ministry of Foreign affairs of Germany >>here<<.

Another place where you could marry, and additionally it's beautiful, is Nicosia in Cyprus. You can both enter visa-free, it's inside the EU, the marriage-certificate is in English which saves lots of hassle concerning translations. (Done that myself ;) )

The phone# of the relevant office including international prefix is 00357-22-797238.

Good luck in any case !
