CCJ and British Citizenship

Post by mnwaqa » Tue Sep 15, 2020 5:29 pm

Hi
My citizenship application is due. I wanted to ask this.

I have 1 CCJ from Uni which i have been paying in instalments from last 3 years and have all proofs. I have made arrangements with them in order to pay on monthly basis. I was unable to pay fee coz my father suffered heart attack and I had to discontinue my studies.

I have 2 more CCJ on a dispute with clients. Both of them I have paid and are satisfied judgements.
I wanted to ask if i apply for citizenship and disclose the above will that effect my application?

I would appreciate members guidance on this

Thank you

These are civil matters. As long you have paid/made arrangements and can show evidence, you are all good. Just declare them and upload evidence with your documents.

Yes best to disclose to avoid deception.

For others information a response from a Barrister with 12 years of practice, that is what she said on 3 CCJ

Thanks for the information

If you repay a CCJ then you can have it marked satisfied but it cannot be removed from your credit file until years have passed.

The only time it can be removed is if you pay in full within 28 of the judgement.

But if you have it marked satisfied it scores much better on most tests.

As far as citizenship goes,as long as you are paying then this should not be a bar though. Half the country is in debt at the moment. As long as you do not try to avoid liability but dishonourable behaviour that should not be an issue.
