Newborn passport settled status parent

Post by Ritter1418 » Mon Nov 16, 2020 8:54 pm

Hello! I am currently wanting to apply for a British passport for my child. I received my settled status in May and child was born two weeks ago. How would I apply for the child passport and what evidence would I have to provide? Is it best to complete in the mail or online? What waiting times have others been experiencing in similar situations?

Apply online for first child passport.

https://www.gov.uk/get-a-child-passport ... d-passport

Child’s UK birth certificate
Your ILR BRP
Marriage certificate (if you are the father)

PS: You are advised not to return your ILR BRP even after your naturalisation as that is the proof that your child is British by birth.

Just curious: if the OP is an EU citizen she/he wouldn't normally have a BRP - how would they prove ILR/Settled Status to HMPO? I guess it's the email and the validation code.

Thank you for your replies. Yes I am the mother a Finnish citizen and have lived in the UK since 2013. The father is a US citizen living in the Uk since 2015, arrived via the family permit route to join me then. As I am the mother and have settled status would I not need to provide a marriage certificate?

Also when applying on line it asks about naturalisation or registration certificate, would i have to apply for this through the home office prior to requesting a passport or as any child born after receiving settled status automatically receives British citizenship only apply for the passport ? Thanks again for your help!

Child is automatically British and entitled to the passport - there is no need to register.
We don't have sight of the online application sections. Perhaps there is a section for parents with settled status/ILR/PR?
I haven't seen any posts yet for this situation, i.e. parent with settled status applying for child passport.
It may be useful to contact the HMPO advice line unless a member can shed light on this. Depending on how knowledgeable the HMPO agent is (or not) they may say you need to apply for MN1 - that certainly would be wrong. They should know all the rules.

Do you have a PR card? If not, the email should work. There was another case like this. HMPO accepted the email proof.

This is from page 9 of the guide for paper applications - so they know all about settled status:
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... 11.19_.pdf

EU Settlement Scheme
If you were granted Indefinite Leave to Remain
(ILR) under the EU Settlement Scheme and you
are applying for your child’s first British passport,
you will need to:
Ÿ give us your Unique Application Number
(UAN). This is a 16 digit number in the format
of xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. You will find your
UAN on the email you got from the Home
Office to confirm that you had been granted
ILR under the EU Settlement Scheme. The
UAN will be found at the top right-hand side
of your Home Office email; located beside
‘Our Ref’.
