Hello,
I have the EU settled status and I'm currently applying for citizenship. I've been in the UK since September 2014 and have worked for two companies since then. The first two years I've been in the UK I had a problem where my employer at the time had the wrong NI number on record and I noticed it far too late (being new to the UK tax system it took me too long to realise how much of an issue this was going to be). This resulted in my first two P60s (tax year 2014/2015 and 2015/2016) to show the wrong NI number. Luckily I managed to get this fixed with both my employer and HMRC before I left that company so everything after that, including the P45, shows the correct NI number. The online tax service also has the right details in all the places dating back to 2014.
I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to submit the old P60s as proof of residence as they have the wrong NI number and I'm afraid it might confuse the Home Office, but without that I don't have any other documents I can use to prove I've been here long enough. I've asked an employment history letter from HMRC and that shows my old job with the start date of September 2014 with the right NI number so I'm confident that when they do any cross checks everything will look alright. I've also asked for a subject access request to HMRC but that will take a while to arrive (they said 28 days, but there's Christmas in between so I expect delays).
Would any of these two documents (the employment history and/or the subject access request) be sufficient to prove the residency requirements? Or should I include the "wrong" P60s anyway?
Thanks
