PLS Advice

I have a cousin (Female) who is living with her partner who is British and came into the country illegally, can she possibly apply for leave to remain because i was told by a friend that a lady who came into this country illegally and was living at the time with her partner who was British applied to the Home Office for leave to remain and it was granted.
Please i would be grateful if you can help me with any information because my cousin is very anxious.
