First Passport Application Supporting Docs Ambiguity

Post by jasbrooks » Tue Sep 28, 2021 9:44 pm

Hi,

We are applying for our three month old daughter's first passport. I, the father have been a UK citizen since birth. My wife the mother was born in the US and has had ILR status here in the UK for three years (with BRP obviously).

The ambiguity is that in one line of the "additional questions for a first British passport application" leaflet, it states that "If making a claim through the father you will also need to provide a marriage certificate".

We are currently unable to locate our original marriage certificate, and would like to process Cleo's passport ASAP so that we can book tickets for a (much needed) holiday. We have an appointment on Thursday for an expedited 1-week first passport application.

It seems to me that the ambiguous note above is superseded by the fact that I have a British passport, and my wife has her BRP with ILR status. Am I correct?

Many thanks in advance for your time and attention!

Jason

If you were married in the UK an official copy of your marriage certificate is easy and very quick to obtain, and they will accept this. But you may need to change that Thursday appointment.
