Faster Route to British Citizenship

Post by maverickeastman » Tue Apr 05, 2022 2:50 pm

Hi,

So here is my situation...I am a non-EU person who has lived in the UK with my Irish spouse for close on 5 years. I have pre-settled status and will be eligible to apply for settled status in September. My partner has lived in the UK for more than 20 years - so is immediately eligible for British citizenship.

We were wondering whether my path to naturalisation would be faster if he became British Citizen which would allow me to apply for naturalisation immediately after I receive my settled status, instead of waiting another year. I'm not sure whether my interpretation of the eligibility is correct and wanted to get your views.

Any thoughts, support and guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

M

Yes, you'll be able to apply for citizenship straight away after settled status and would be under 3 year route. It will still take a while for your spouse to get citizenship, but it'll save some time.
