British Citizenship + EU Settled status

Post by anmax1982 » Wed Apr 06, 2022 3:20 pm

Hello All,

I had a general question related to the above topic. My wife holds a biometric residence card associated with EU Settled status and her online status is linked to this BRP.

She applied for her British citizenship few months back and got the approval. Today the Oath ceremony was completed. She will be applying now for the British passport.

What is the procedure now to return the BRP? Should it be returned immediately once this oath ceremony is done or can you first wait until the British passport is received and then return the BRP? I understand it take a few weeks/months to get the British passport.

Any advise would be helpful. If there is any associated UK Gov number to call, it will be great.

Thanks a lot.

Kind Regards.

I take it you know the official advice:
https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-sp ... ertificate
I don't know any "helpful" UKVI numbers - they would probably just read this text to you.
And I guess you/wife are concerned that she won't have an official ID until the new passport has arrived ... understandable.
You could keep a copy of the BRP and return it - remember for a British citizen Settled Status is no longer meaningful.
Then there's the £1000 warning - I have yet to see anyone reporting here they were fined ... personally I think to keep hold of it for a few more days/weeks won't make a difference.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.
