Can Skilled Visa Dependent Child utilise Degree Apprenticeship?

Post by Nag_chow » Tue Sep 12, 2023 11:14 pm

Hi, Can Skilled visa dependent Child utilise Degree apprenticeship opportunity ? If so, will it affect his Dependent visa extension? He is now 17 and in uk and planning to apply for degree apprenticeships so would like your expertise knowledge whether it can impact on his visa extension ? Weekly he has to work 3days and remaining 2 days study however he will get paid by company and sponsor the degree fees. As per the dependent visa rule , it says child has to dependent on parents. if he starts earning and study thru degree apprenticeship then will it impact on his visa further extension? Much appreciable for your response.
Thanks, Nagachow

If your child is 16 or over
They must:

live with you (unless they’re in full-time education at boarding school, college or university)
not be married, in a civil partnership or have any children
be financially supported by you

This suggests that if they were to enter into a degree apprenticeship they are unlikely to be considered a dependent for the purposes of the visa. They will be in receipt of a salary and not in full time education.

The other issue that may come into play will be the requirement of the employer to hold a sponsor licence in order to offer this role.
