Things to do after new BRP?

Post by Dreamer10 » Sat Dec 30, 2023 4:01 pm

Hello everyone,

We recently switched from skilled worker visa to global talent visa and received our new BRPs.

I have 2 questions and I'll appreciate if anyone can provide an answers to these:

1. It was mentioned in the decision letter that we need to return the old BRPs. I was wondering will there be instances in the future (e.g. ILR or naturalisation application) where we will be needing the old BRPs. If I keep a photo of the old ones, would that be enough?

2. Do we need to inform our GP (for health surcharge purposes), kid's school or bank about the new leave? What's the guidance here?

Many thanks.

1. Good idea to always keep a copy of most paperwork related to immigration (scan & paper) - certainly for naturalisation (and likely for ILR) you won't need all the old BRPs, they will be invalid of course when you move on.
2. You don't need to inform anyone as far as I know, you just show BRP as/when requested. It's about proving your status rather than what particular visa you hold or change to. Employer may want to have a copy of the BRP (hope they do as it's their responsibility to validate "right of work".)
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
