PPS number for working remotly (Ireland)

Post by anacyano » Tue Jan 02, 2024 2:49 pm

Hi, I'm from brazil, currently resident of Portugal and I was offered a position to work remotly for a compoany based in ireland. Does anyone have more information on how to apply for a pps number in this conditions? Also, if in the future I decide to move to ireland (in a stamp 1 visa) would I have to change my pps number?

PPS is like NIF in Portugal (so you know what it is I assume); it's given once and doesn't change.

When applying, you need to show evidence of your Irish address, so I don't think you can get it remotely.

How is your work going to facilitate this scheme? Does your firm have subsidiaries in Portugal? Might be easier for you to just create a contract with them and work for the subsidiary.

Oh right, like a NIF, thank you! This already clearifies a lot.
So I did a free consult with a firm and they said it's possible to have a pps number if you're outside of Ireland, as long as you can proof the reason why (usually a remote work contract or property purchase). But they charge more than I can afford at the moment to do the process, so I was wondering if I could get some guidence throught this forum.

Quoting official resources:
https://www.gov.ie/en/service/12e6de-ge ... ps-number/
To get a PPS Number, you must provide evidence of:

your identity
why you need a PPS Number
your address
[...]
If you are applying for a PPS Number to work in Ireland, you must have a signed offer of employment from your employer confirming when your job is due to start or when it started. This letter should be on company headed paper with the employer’s contact details and employer/company registered number.
I don't know what that firm is doing and why are they asking money for it; you can try to apply using your Portugese address and letter from your employer (if you've taking the job), but I don't know about success rates for this.

Lovely, I didn't bother scrolling down - apologies!

That should apply for you - https://www.gov.ie/en/service/12e6de-ge ... de-ireland

I'm getting rusty, shame on me.
