Can my mother come over as a Dependant Parant?

Post by lancebotha » Wed Jan 14, 2009 12:15 pm

Hi All,

Do you think I’d be able to get my mum over to the UK? The situation is pretty complex, but I was hoping she would qualify as she is living in the most exceptional compassionate circumstances.

My mum and dad originally from the South Africa, have spent the last 15 years abroad in South East Asia, travelling between towns and cities in Indonesia & Malaysia. My mum has never worked, and during this period looked after the house and us kids while my dad was the sole earner. Because all this travel and movement, she was pretty much isolated from what she used to know. Unfortunately 2 years ago my parents relationship hit the rocks and is pretty much over, as my dad has met someone else. They haven't applied for a divorce or a separation yet, and my mum is still financially dependant on my dad (as she has never worked). My mum wants to make a new start, however the only place she would legally be allowed to live is back home in South Africa where she doesn’t have any emotional support.

Recently my dad lost his job and is currently looking for something else. They don't own a house or have any assets worth a lot of value to consider sharing. Not knowing whether my dad will be able to support my mum in the future or not, is what brings me to why I want to bring my mother to the UK. We would be able to support her during her time here, but inevitable she wants to start looking for work so that she can provide for herself. My sister and myself both love in the UK, and my younger brother ( 18 ) is hoping to leave the nest in the next few months

Is there anyway that I can get my mum here on the Family members (INF 6) visa, or if not anything else? And if she could come over, would she be allowed to work (considering that we prove that we can support without the need for public fund)?

Many thanks,

Thank you, I've read that and although my gut feeling is that it can't be done (as she is not financially dependent on us), i'd like some other form of advise to confirm this. Is the situation not looked at on a case by case basic, and would it not be possiable for us to prove off that she is best off with us, than alone in South Africa?

Thanks
