British Citizen visiting France

Post by peeta » Mon Dec 02, 2024 10:02 pm

Hi all,

hope everyone is well, I am British citizen and would like to go to France to meet a friend,

I know I do not need any visa, but Gov.UK webiste says, I may have to get this https://www.service-public.fr/particuli ... 91?lang=en

But, I know a lot of my friends who are also British citizens go to france without need this.

what is the deal with this pls?

Not familiar with this but it seems you (or host) don't need this.

If you go to step 1 of the of the approach it says:

"The acceptance certificate shall cover any foreigner non-European wishing to stay less than 3 months in France, as part of private or family visit.

Be careful, there is no need to ask for a welcoming certificate if the person you are accommodating is in one of the following cases:

She has a Schengen travel visa
She has a visa "residence card to be requested within 2 months of arrival in France"
She is coming as part of a humanitarian stay
It comes as part of a cultural exchange
She's in a medical emergency
She's coming for a relative's funeral"
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Maybe they stay at hotels/etc.

At the moment British citizens are the same as other 3rd country citizens (ie Americans or Brazilians), so officers at the entry point, theoretically, may want to see the documents about where you plan to stay and such. And this document will prove your stay.
It might just work out and you'll be let in without questions (most likely). Or you might not.

Up to you if you want to go without it.

thanks all for the replies.

I will also be taking my wife with me who has Sri Lankan passport now but has ILR in the UK.

For her Schengen visa also this doc does not seem to be needed, am I correct?

anyone know what other docs she is likely to need please?

thanks

It might actually be needed here.

When your spouse applies for Schengen visa, she would need to show (among other stuff) she has a way to get to France (tickets), financial stability (bank accounts) and that she has a place to stay - how will your spouse show that she has accomodation in France? That's where this doc might be applicable.
Have a think about it.

You would need to consult the French embassy website.
Keep in mind relationship with UK citizen does not give any benefit in getting a Schengen visa after Brexit.
